When the market situation of Bangladesh is mentioned, the name of 'Syndicate' is mentioned closely with it. But what exactly is a syndicate? Is the syndicate entirely market-oriented? What does the syndicate mean?

Why can't the syndicate be eliminated?
Why can't the syndicate be eliminated?

According to the common dictionary definition, a syndicate is an association that temporarily works together to achieve a particular interest. This work can be good or bad.

According to Investopedia's definition of business judgment, a syndicate is an alliance that works together to achieve a major business profit-centered or dominant objective. In most cases when a major task or project cannot be done alone, syndicates work together to achieve that task or project. The Syndicate is not primarily a charity; It serves all purposes in which every member has some interest.

Well, you already have a general idea about the syndicate. But the syndicate uses more bad methods than good ones. Since we have started talking about the syndicate system of Bangladesh, let's go back to the main context.

Is it the person from whom you buy your daily necessities who is keeping the price gouging from you, or is it the syndicate who is being fined by the consumer department?

To find the answer to this question, you have to go to the election of Bangladesh. Yes, Bangladesh election. It is not only the problem of Bangladesh but the problem of the whole world. Because the whole world runs on the same system. Which is never seen by human eyes. Because some self-interested people and companies are ruining the economy of the country by putting the glasses of development in people's eyes through the syndicate system.

The person from whom you are buying potatoes, onions, chilies, and raw vegetables does not know where and how the syndicate works. Even the person from whom you procure your non-vegetarian food does not know where or how the syndicate operates. They are only small and medium traders and you and I are their consumers.

In the language of political science, a country or a state is compared to an institution. Just like the company you are in has many departments, the state also has many departments. Which solves various problems of the state and works to improve people's quality of life. However, out of all the share partners of the company you work for, you know only 1-2 people. You know nothing about the rest of the shared partners. Because you are not allowed to know anything about the partners of the rest.

You have been appointed to praise and work for the owners. According to the Bengali Proverb "Ginger Merchant's Ship News"

Let's try to give you questions.

(1) Do you know how much money is required for national elections?

(2) Even if the government runs the country, who runs the government?

Do you know how much money is required for national elections?

According to the information of BBC News Bengal (January 3, 2024): Initially, according to the Election Commission's proposal, the cost of the election is about 1,500 crores, but in the end, the cost of this election may exceed 2,000 crores.

There will be more than 42,000 centers in the three hundred parliamentary seats in the country in this election of about twelve crore voters. Also, all the magistrates who will work on the day of election across the country will get allowances for transportation of ballot papers and supporting officers of the returning officer. Magistrates or officers having the power of magistrates will get an allowance of TK. 9,000 per person per day for a total of five days including the two days before and after the elections. Besides, they will get another 1000 Taka per day as staff allowance. That is, the election commission will spend 50 thousand Taka to pay the honorarium of a magistrate or allowance for performing election duties.

Personal opinion: Is the money that the state said in organizing the election the last account or is there any other account? Yes, of course, there is. Candidates have to pay various types of bills including party workers, tea stalls, campaigns, and special consultants in field-level government elections. Which means the state does not bear but the candidate has to bear. The money that can be calculated can be thousands of crores.

But where did a candidate get so much money? Let's try to find the answer to this question in the next question.

Even if the government runs the country, who runs the government?

Although we hear the story of thousands of crores of rupees for the formation of the government in the national elections, we do not get any information about the source of this money. Those who helped the winning candidate with money and manpower to form the government will always remain alien to us. Much like a share partner of your company. Someone you never knew or saw but was right in front of your eyes. They are basically syndicates. They are the big businessmen of Bangladesh. Who have huge industries, and dominate FMCG companies including rice mills, and cold stores.

They make deals with candidates during national elections. By spending money on elections. In return, they want business expansion and a share of power. The government knows very well when they will withdraw the money invested in elections by increasing the price of a product. But the people have to show that the government works for the people. Therefore, although the Directorate of Consumer Affairs fined small and medium traders, Raghav Boal remained out of the loop. People hope that relief will return after seeing such steps of the government, but the picture in the market is completely different. The prices of rice and oil have also increased despite the reduction in the price of eggs.

You can search in different media if you want. You will never find a news story where a big company has been banned or fined. If you find it, the information you will get if you search is a political conflict.

In the end, the syndicate is such a force that even the government does not have the strength to stand against it. Because the government itself has become a hostage to another power to gain its power. About which no one ever knows. Where there is never an abhijan or no government permission to conduct the campaign.

The government cannot evict them at will. Because the investors in the election work with a cold head. They always keep a plan “B” ready so that the government cannot take any action against them.
