Fire in the secretariat, under control after five hours

The fire in the secretariat was brought under control after five hours. But now the fire service personnel are still there. After a while, the home adviser will make an announcement. Senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs are present. 211 members of 19 units are working.

A senior official of the Ministry of Home Affairs said that several committees will investigate the incident of fire in the Secretariat.


Fire service officer. Anwar Hossain said that the fire was completely under control at 8:05 am.


The senior officials of the law and order forces are working to assess the damage in the secretariat and are visiting the scene. Director General of Fire Service and Civil Service Defense Brigadier General Muhammad Zahid Kamal is with him.

He said the fire is under control at the moment. 6, 7, 8, and 9 these four floors caught fire. We hope that the fire will be extinguished within an hour. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.


Before this, a fire broke out on the eighth floor of Secretariat building number 7 at around midnight 1:30 am. Shahjahan Shikder, officer-in-charge of the media cell of the fire service, said that 19 units of 10 stations are working to control the fire. Initially, the fire service personnel started working from the station located in the Secretariat. The fire station head office received the report of the fire at 1:52. Immediately, units from nearby fire stations quickly joined the task of extinguishing the fire.

It is known that there are offices of several important ministries including the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Local Government in building number 7 of the Secretariat.


Meanwhile, a large number of police army and BGB have been deployed around the secretariat including the south gate to ensure the security of the secretariat. The fire service could not tell the cause of the fire and the amount of damage.


Committee to investigate the fire incident in the Secretariat


A committee of 7 members has been formed to investigate the incident of fire in building number 7 of the secretariat. This committee is made up of the cabinet department.

The members of the committee are – Mohammad Khaled Rahim (Additional Secretary) Convener; members are - representatives of the Public Safety Department, representatives of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, representatives of the Local Government Department, representatives of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, representatives of the Directorate of Fire Service and Civil Defense and representatives of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.


These members will be at least of the rank of Joint Secretary. If necessary one or more members can be co-opted in the committee. The committee has been asked to submit its report within seven working days.


Fire in Secretariat: Administration officials in meeting with advisers


Senior secretaries, police, and fire service senior officials with advisers sat in a meeting at the meeting room of the Council of Ministers department at 11 am on Thursday. Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. The Home Affairs Adviser participated in the meeting. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Housing and Public Works Ministry Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Environment Forest and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rezwana Hasan, Liberation War Affairs Ministry Adviser Farooq-e-Azam, Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin S Murshid and Rural Development and Cooperative Ministry Adviser Asif Mahmud Bhuiyan are the participants.


According to the preliminary information, there are offices of several important ministries and departments in building number 7 of the secretariat. This building houses the Ministry of Water Resources; Ministry of Youth and Sports; Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology; Department of Posts and Telecommunications; Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, Department of Local Government, Department of Rural Development and Cooperatives; Ministry of Labor and Employment; Ministry of Finance, Department of Finance, Department of Financial Institutions, Department of Internal Resources; Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Department of Road Transport and Highways.


Secretariat fire: Conspirators will not be spared (Asif Mahmood)


Asif Mahmud Bhuiyan, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, said, "Whoever or those who are involved in this conspiracy to fail us, will not be exempted."


Asif Mahmud said these things in a status given on his own Facebook ID on Thursday morning.


He also said, 'We were working on the embezzlement and corruption of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives in the past. Evidence of looting of thousands of crores of rupees was also found. The extent of the damage caused by the fire is not yet known. Whoever is involved in this conspiracy to fail us, will not be spared.
